Our presence at this internationally renowned event demonstrates our commitment to cyber defense, security research and active participation in the global InfoSec community.

Atmosphere, themes and highlights from Buffalo

BSides Buffalo, a purely community-led InfoSec event, offered a unique, hands-on environment. There were four content-focused tracks in just one day:

General: Classic specialist presentations with technical depth

Lightning Talk: knowledge impulses in compact form

Hacking is Art: Creative projects at the interface between technology and art

Introsec: Beginner-friendly content – ideal for students and career changers

The program was supplemented by a capture-the-flag competition, workshops on soldering and lockpicking, a sponsors’ exhibition, free catering (including lunch) and a variety of networking opportunities – all in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere.

We are particularly pleased about our active content contribution to the conference: Our colleague Olivia Gallucci, Senior Security Researcher, presented her paper in the General Track with the title:

“Unlocking macOS Internals: A Beginner’s Guide to Apple’s Open Source Code”

The presentation included:

A thorough introduction to the architecture of macOS, including the XNU kernel and central system components.

Clear explanations on how to use Apple’s open source sources.

Use of freely available analysis and reverse engineering tools.

Concrete application examples – practical for both beginners and advanced analysts in the macOS security field.

We are very pleased that Olivia was able to give numerous participants an understanding of macOS security research with her presentation and open up perspectives for practice-oriented analyses.

Relevance for the cybersecurity community

BSides Buffalo is one of the most important InfoSec events in Western New York. It attracts engineers, analysts, students and security enthusiasts from the region – and increasingly from all over North America. In particular, the Introsec format, free admission for students in exchange for a resume and the close sponsorship focus on recruiting demonstrate the high value placed on professional development and community building.

SECUINFRA ‘s participation at BSides Buffalo 2025 was very rewarding, both in terms of the technical presence and the valuable exchange with leading minds. With her presentation, Olivia Gallucci made a significant contribution to the understanding of macOS security using open source resources.

We look back with pride on a day full of innovations, constructive networks and intensive impulses and look forward to further deepening our international community cooperation.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the organizers, sponsors (above all LACyber, Tenable, TechBuffalo, Rochester ISSA, Canisius CCADE, MetaCTF and others) and all the dedicated speakers – as well as all the participants for their inspiring feedback.

On June 7, 2025, we participated in the fourth edition of the prestigious BSides Buffalo community conference at Canisius University’s Science Hall in Buffalo, NY.
