Red Teaming

How far can attackers penetrate your company?

SECUINFRA puts your operational security to the test with realistic attack simulations. We examine how technology, processes, and employees interact, and use these insights to identify specific improvements for your cyber defense.

CYBER DEFENSE PUT TO THE TEST

What does a red team assessment test?

A Red Team Assessment simulates the tactics of real attackers within an agreed-upon framework. The starting point is a specific attack target, such as gaining access to systems requiring special protection. The assessment examines the paths that lead to that target and how effectively the organization detects and responds to the attack.

  • Which entry points can actually be used?
  • What technical and organizational controls are in place?
  • Where do gaps arise between detection, decision-making, and response?
PROCEDURE

Here's How Red Teaming Works with SECUINFRA

1. Define the Framework and Objectives

Together, we define the scope of the test, the target, the constraints, and the communication channels. Approvals and termination criteria form the basis for a controlled execution.

2. Develop a threat scenario*

Our threat intelligence team develops a scenario based on the attackers relevant to you and your specific situation.

*optional

3. Examine the attack surface

We analyze publicly available information and systems to identify realistic entry points. If necessary, this preparation involves a longer observation period.

4. Attack Simulation*

At the customer’s request, we simulate selected attack steps within the agreed-upon scope: from the initial point of entry to the escalation of privileges and lateral movement within the network. In doing so, we also examine whether and how effectively existing security controls detect these activities.

*optional

5. Evaluate Goal Achievement and Defense

We document how far an attack has progressed and which protection, detection, and response mechanisms were effective. We disclose sensitive attack findings only to the extent agreed upon.

6. Discuss the results and determine next steps

You will receive a clear overview of the process and the results. The final presentation will focus on actionable optimization measures and key challenges.

RESULTS

What You'll Take Away from the Assessment

Documented attack vectors and verifiable evidence.

Visible strengths and weaknesses in your operational defense.

Specific technical and organizational recommendations for improvement.

Joint assessment of the results to guide further implementation.

Upon request, SECUINFRA supports the implementation of the recommended measures by providing consulting services or handling implementation tasks. This support is agreed upon separately.

The effectiveness of your cybersecurity defenses is determined by the interplay of technology, people, and processes—and that is exactly what we put to the test.

EXTENSIONS

Tailor the scope of the audit to your risks

In addition to our standard scope of services, we are happy to place special emphasis on specific areas.

Physical Security

Following a separate consultation, we will take into account the physical access routes and their significance for the security of your systems.

Social engineering

We assess the agreed-upon human and organizational vulnerabilities. The analysis is conducted in a manner that protects privacy, using anonymized personal data.

AI-powered scenarios

If the task is appropriate, AI-based approaches—such as pre-agreed deepfake or spear-phishing simulations—may be incorporated. Their use is guided by the SECUINFRA-AI guidelines. No critical customer data is disclosed to third parties.

OUR PERSPECTIVE

Attack Simulation from a Cyber Defense Perspective

At SECUINFRA, the focus is on proactive security, while also taking operational defense into account. The Red Team, Threat Intelligence, IT Forensics, Compliance, and Cyber Defense teams contribute their perspectives to derive actionable improvements from observed attack vectors.

The professional exchange begins before the assessment and, if necessary, continues even after the results are presented.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Red Teaming

In red teaming, an attack target is pursued through a series of interconnected steps, thereby testing operational defenses. A penetration test, on the other hand, typically focuses more on vulnerabilities within a defined scope.

If you want to determine whether your security organization can detect and respond to a realistic attack, we’ll help you decide whether a comprehensive assessment or a targeted review is the best approach based on your goals and current situation.

This is determined during the scoping phase. To ensure a realistic review, the operational team can only be provided with limited information. An authorized group on the client side must oversee the process and remain available.

As a rough guide, projects typically last four to twelve weeks. However, the actual duration depends on the scope, the targets, and the preparation. In particular, assessing the attack surface may take more time. We will coordinate the schedule with you on a case-by-case basis.

Test limits, communication channels, and termination criteria are agreed upon in advance. Particularly sensitive activities require separate coordination. However, a trouble-free process cannot be guaranteed across the board.

We document and present the results in the form of concrete, prioritized optimization recommendations. Upon request, SECUINFRA will then support you in implementation and with other Blue Team tasks—from planning to operational development. Purple Teaming is also an option for deeper collaboration between the attack and defense teams.
