Two notorious APT groups, real-world attack scenarios, and hands-on cyber defense: At BSides Berlin 2026, we invite you to join us on an exciting journey into the world of sophisticated cyberattacks. In our interactive, hands-on workshop “A Phishing Trip with the Bears,” we’ll take a close look at the attack chains of Fancy Bear (APT28) and Cozy Bear (APT29) —from the initial phishing email to establishing persistence in the compromised system.

Led by Marius Genheimer from our SECUINFRA Falcon team, participants will gain hands-on experience with how professional threat actors operate, what traces their malware leaves behind, and how complex attack patterns can be systematically analyzed. The focus is on real-world attack chains, technical interrelationships, and valuable insights into the methods of two well-known Advanced Persistent Threats. This makes it clear what is essential for detecting and analyzing targeted cyberattacks—and what insights can be gained from this for effective cyber defense.

What makes this workshop special is that it’s beginner-friendly. No prior knowledge of malware analysis is required. All participants need to bring is a laptop with a web browser—and a curiosity to examine cyberattacks from the perspective of a security analyst.
