The Handelsblatt’s Cybersecurity 2024 annual conference provided an impressive stage for the exchange of strategies, challenges and innovations in the cybersecurity landscape. SECUINFRA was proud to be part of this landmark event that brought together leading experts, decision-makers and practitioners to reshape the future of IT security.
Opening keynote by Claudia Plattner: Visions for the future of cyber security
Claudia Plattner, President of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), opened the event with an inspiring keynote speech. She spoke urgently about the need to fundamentally rethink cyber security and focused on the EU NIS-2 Directive. This offers not only the obligation, but also the opportunity to proactively shape the security landscape for the future. Her words underlined the importance of a political and strategic paradigm shift in a world that is increasingly characterized by digital risks.
Dr. Peter Dornheim: Cybersecurity culture as the key to success
Another highlight was the interview with Dr. Peter Dornheim from STIHL. He highlighted the immense importance of a strong cyber security culture within companies. Dr. Dornheim emphasized that IT security is no longer an isolated task for IT departments. Instead, every employee must take responsibility, as even a small security breach can have serious consequences.
His comments on the “80/20 principle” were particularly succinct: it is not enough to make 80% of employees aware of security measures, as the remaining 20% could pave the way for potential attackers. A target of 95% awareness is a good starting point, even if 100% remains the ideal.
Christoph Ritter: Exciting insights from the practice of a penetration tester
Christoph Ritter from Baader Bank amazed the audience with a fascinating practical report. The experienced penetration tester described the challenges and limitations of his profession – and the unexpected consequences when good work leads to misunderstandings. Ritter explained how his realistic tests sometimes attracted the attention of the police, as he could not recreate all the scenarios of a real attacker in his role as a tester. He pointed out the difficulties of carrying out legitimate simulations of attacks without overstepping the boundaries of what is permitted. His experiences impressively illustrated how challenging it is to protect critical infrastructures.
Cybersecurity as a task for society as a whole
Handelsblatt’s Cybersecurity 2024 annual conference showed once again that cybersecurity is much more than just a technical issue today. The contributions from the high-caliber speakers highlighted the importance of political framework conditions, corporate responsibility and practical expertise in making the digital world more secure.
SECUINFRA is proud to have been a part of this exchange as a leading player in the field of cyber defense. We look forward to incorporating the insights gained into our daily work and further strengthening our customers’ security architectures – for a resilient digital future.
