On June 18, 2025, we from SECUINFRA were able to be part of the inspiring summer festival at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences – and were thrilled by the exchange, knowledge transfer and networking! Our colleagues Lanuar and Leonhard were there and experienced a day full of energy, insights and innovative perspectives.
Practice meets theory – the dual study program at h_da
Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences has been one of the pioneers of practice-integrated dual study programs in Hesse since 1999. With a strong focus on the close integration of theory and professional practice, the dual study program offers optimal conditions for students:
- High practical component: practical phases during the lecture-free periods – plus regular practical days or projects in the company.
- Financial independence: monthly paid studies – a valuable advantage over regular studies.
- Condensed duration of study: Bachelor’s degrees are possible in six and a half to seven semesters.
- Equivalence to standard studies: Degrees have the same recognition, possibly with a dual form certificate.
- Opportunities abroad: Semesters abroad are also possible in the dual study program – often in the theory block and with early planning.
- Regional roots, global networks: h_da is strongly networked in Hesse and cultivates collaborations and international alliances.
Impulses from the lecture by Prof. Dr. Michael Becker
A special highlight was the presentation by Prof. Dr. Michael Becker, Unicom Professor of the Year. Under the title “What exactly connects education?”, he impressively highlighted how the dual study program combines academic expertise and practical experience – something that we as a company can only confirm. His focus:
- Dual students as drivers of innovation – they bring fresh ideas, up-to-date specialist knowledge and dynamism to the company.
- Employer branding through duality – attractive, future-oriented training paths make employers visible and desirable.
- Professional orientation – through practical experience, students can recognize their own career path at an early stage and shape it in a targeted manner.
- Competent in the world of work – alumni are well prepared for real company processes – a win for companies and students alike.
Our summary of the summer party
We were thrilled by this inspiring exchange. Prof. Becker’s presentation has encouraged us to further strengthen our programs for supporting dual students. We look forward to building bridges between science and practice together with h_da at the interface of education and infrastructure.
