Cyberattack – What to do when disaster strikes

Fachartikel Cyberangriff – was nun?

Why traditional security measures are no longer enough – and how companies should be prepared

Imagine this: One morning, an employee boots up his computer – and all he sees is a blackmail letter. Systems are down, customer data is encrypted and the first indications of a possible data leak are circulating on the darknet. What now?

The specialist article “Cyber attack – what now?” from the current issue of the trade journal manage it (01-02/2025) explores precisely this question – and provides a well-founded, practical overview of the growing threat situation and effective response strategies for companies.

The focus is on the rapid professionalization of attackers: cybercrime is now an organized business. Criminal groups work in a division of labor – from initial access to malicious code to money laundering. Ransomware attacks are no longer one-off disruptive actions, but part of complex business models such as cybercrime as a service”. Affected companies are often blackmailed twice: by encrypting their data and by threatening to make it public.

In addition to technical vulnerabilities such as insecure VPN gateways or outdated cloud configurations, the focus is also shifting to the “human factor”: social engineering, phishing and targeted manipulation of employees remain the main attack vectors – often with devastating consequences.

The article shows:

  • which IT infrastructures are particularly at risk,
  • how attacks can be detected at an early stage,
  • which immediate measures have priority in the event of a crisis,
  • and how companies can better prepare themselves organizationally and technically.

Yasin Ilgar, Managing Cyber Defense Consultant at SECUINFRA Falcon Team, provides practical recommendations on how companies can strengthen their crisis response capabilities, establish forensic processes and use early warning systems effectively. Particularly valuable: a compact framework for action in the event of an emergency – from raising the alarm and preserving evidence to communicating with authorities and the public.
