On June 1, 2025, SECUINFRA was represented at BSides312 in Chicago – one of the most renowned community-driven conferences for IT security in the United States. The event took place at the Irish American Heritage Center and attracted numerous experts, researchers and security managers from the international cybersecurity community.
For us, the participation was a complete success – both in terms of content and in the exchange with a high-caliber, professionally focused community.
Technical lecture by Olivia Gallucci: Technical insight into macOS internals
A special highlight: Our colleague Olivia Gallucci, Senior Security Researcher at SECUINFRA, was part of the official program with a specialist presentation. Under the title:
“Unlocking macOS Internals: A Beginner’s Guide to Apple’s Open Source Code”
Olivia gave an in-depth introduction to the security architecture of macOS. She explained how Apple’s publicly available source code can be used to better understand system components, identify attack vectors and perform custom analysis – a topic that was of particular interest to researchers, Red Teamers and technical newcomers to Apple security.
The presentation was met with great interest and led to numerous in-depth discussions on the fringes of the event. Olivia not only demonstrated a deep technical understanding, but also the ability to communicate complex issues in an understandable and practical way – something that is particularly important to us at SECUINFRA.
BSides312: A conference with character
BSides312 is part of the globally established BSides conference series and is characterized by its community proximity, technical depth and an open, accessible atmosphere. The event is organized by Hack4Kidz, a non-profit organization dedicated to IT education and safe digital spaces.
This year’s program offered a diverse mix of:
- Specialist presentations in two parallel tracks (Blue Line & Red Line)
- Capture-the-Flag competitions (CTFs)
- Hands-on offers such as a lockpicking village
- Networking opportunities with a focus on professional exchange
All program items took place in a spirit of openness and mutual support – free of marketing messages, but with plenty of room for technical know-how, questions and new perspectives.
Conclusion: A valuable contribution to the international cybersecurity community
For us, BSides312 was much more than just a conference. It was a place for networking, knowledge sharing and mutual learning. The fact that SECUINFRA was represented with its own presentation underlines our claim to not only accompany the cybersecurity community, but to actively help shape it.
We would like to thank the organizers for the professional implementation, the participants for the intensive exchange – and especially our colleague Olivia Gallucci for her dedicated contribution to the event.
