Elbsides – one of the most important community conferences for IT security in northern Germany – took place in Hamburg on June 13, 2025. The venue was the traditional Hotel Hafen Hamburg, which offered a suitable setting for in-depth professional exchange with a view of the Elbe and the harbor. SECUINFRA was represented on site by our colleague Evgen Blohm, Senior Cyber Defense Consultant.
Keynote, community and technical depth – a conference day with substance
Elbsides sees itself as a community-driven conference with the aim of discussing current challenges, new attack methods and innovative defense approaches openly, practically and at eye level. This year’s keynote speech by Mikko Hyppönen, Chief Research Officer at WithSecure, was particularly noteworthy. In his presentation “What I’ve Learned”, Hyppönen gave insights into three decades of cybercrime, from the beginnings of simple computer viruses to today’s challenges posed by state-sponsored attackers and organized criminal groups.
Evgen Blohm took the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from the industry in numerous specialist presentations, workshops and discussion rounds. The thematic focus this year was on attacks on supply chains, OT security, deepfake detection and realistic pentesting scenarios. The formats impressed with their interactive nature and technical depth – exactly what experts from the field want.
Relevant impulses for our daily work in cyber defense
In addition to the technical input, the community aspect was also a central component of the event. In informal talks and discussion rounds, Evgen was able to make valuable contacts and discuss current developments with colleagues from various areas of the IT security landscape. Particularly relevant were the findings relating to the further development of detection strategies, incident response processes and the use of SIEM and SOAR solutions in a real-life environment.
Elbsides 2025 was a win for SECUINFRA in more ways than one. The combination of top-class specialist content, practice-oriented formats and an open, committed community not only provided valuable professional impetus, but also new ideas for our daily work in the field of cyber defense. The insights gained from workshops and presentations flow directly into our customer projects and internal developments.
We would like to thank the organizers for a professionally organized event with a strong content and are already looking forward to Elbsides 2026.
