Our Cyber Defense Consultants, Marius Genheimer and Felix Rothe, flew the European flag high and showed a remarkable mix of professionalism, expertise and intercultural exchange at the Threat Analyst Summit 2024 in Taiwan. The conference, which took place on 11. and The event, hosted by TeamT5 and ITOCHU on December 12, brought together around 250 cybersecurity experts to discuss the latest threats and trends in the APAC region. SECUINFRA was the only European company on site – and made its presence felt across the board.
A certificate that not everyone has: Threat Hunting Professional
The stay in Taiwan began with a challenge for the two consultants: intensive training on the “ThreatSonar” solution , a competitor to established products such as Nextron Systems THOR. In a mixture of theory and practice, they not only proved their technical skills, but also their nerves of steel when technical problems made the already demanding certification test more difficult.
With a success rate of just 50% among the 20 participants, the two stood out – and also provided valuable feedback on ThreatSonar’s functions and use cases. This feedback was positively received by the organizers and shows how European know-how is appreciated in Asia.
Top-class insights at the Threat Analyst Summit
The actual conference was a showcase for the current threat situation in the APAC region, with presentations on financially motivated attacks (FIN) and state-sponsored cybercrime (APT). There was a particular focus on attacker groups from mainland China and North Korea. Trends such as attacks on edge infrastructures and the use of ORB networks (Operational Relay Boxes) dominated the discussions.
The quality of the presentations was impressive, and Jay Hsia from TeamT5 invited SECUINFRA to contribute to the conference itself next year – an opportunity that has met with great interest.
Between business cards and business opportunities
Networking in Taiwan was an art in itself. While digital business cards found little acceptance, the classic paper cards enjoyed great popularity. Marius and Felix met an impressive range of experts, including veterans such as Vitaly Kamluk and Kurt Baumgartner (formerly of Kaspersky GReAT) as well as representatives from Abu Dhabi, Vietnam and Singapore.
TeamT5 ‘s increased interest in the European markets also opens up exciting prospects for SECUINFRA. With planned product innovations such as a new EDR module and active directory integrations for ThreatSonar, there is an opportunity to further develop the cybersecurity landscape in Europe together.
Taipei: Technology meets tradition
Away from the conference, Taiwan offered a fascinating insight into Asian culture and modernity. Our two consultants explored sights such as the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial, Taipei 101 and the Lungshan Temple. The Guang Hua Digital Plaza was a highlight for tech enthusiasts, while the Raohe Street Night Market enticed visitors with culinary discoveries.
Both were particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the city and the efficient metro system. “Friendliness” is not just an empty phrase in Taipei – it is a way of life there.
More than just a conference
Marius Genheimer and Felix Rothe’s participation in the Threat Analyst Summit 2024 was far more than just a professional obligation. They not only demonstrated their expertise, but also built a bridge between Europe and Asia. Taiwan opened up new horizons for them – both professionally and culturally. A successful start to future international cooperation.
